91勛圖厙 to Host 10th Annual Girls in STEM Event
March 20, 2024
The 10th Annual Girls in STEM event will be held at 91勛圖厙 on Saturday, March 23 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the college’s Bulmer Telecommunications Center (BTC). This popular, free event is open to girls in grades four through eight and includes fun, hands-on workshops designed to get young women interested, excited and confident about pursuing science and technology-based careers.
The number of participants for the event is limited and is required. Registration will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
The event will kick off with keynote speaker Dr. Michelle Lewis, the executive director of the Stack Family Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training Center at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Following the presentation, students will attend two, one-hour STEM workshops of their choosing that will include hands-on activities exploring science, technology, engineering and math. Workshop sessions will be led by STEM professionals and educators.
Programs like the Girls in STEM event are essential for youth, but especially girls. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, women made up only 28 percent of the STEM workforce in 2023, proving that a significant gender gap still remains in the field.
"Hudson Valley is proud to host the Girls in STEM event on our campus for the 10th year,” said President Roger Ramsammy. "Girls in STEM is an impactful way to educate young girls on the many different educational and career opportunities that are open and available to them. This event continues to help future students feel confident in their interests to pursue STEM-based careers, and Hudson Valley is proud to be a catalyst for that.”
