The Fitness Specialist certificate program is designed for those who wish to start or build upon a career in the growing fitness industry. Whether you want to start a career in the fitness field or are already working and wish to increase your knowledge and skills, this certificate program can help you achieve your goals.

The program also may benefit those working in other allied health professions who want to include exercise as part of a health and wellness program. People who want to begin their own fitness/personal training business can also benefit from elective courses in entrepreneurship and sports management.

Program Highlights

    After completing this program, you will have foundational knowledge to sit for professional examinations offered by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Health Professionals, Cooper Institute and the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
  • One-of-a-Kind Program
    This is the only program of its kind in the Capital Region. More than 50 percent of the certificate may be completed online.
  • State-of-the-Art Facilities
    Study in our state-of-the-art exercise physiology lab, and take advantage of three fitness rooms that include Cybex and Lifetime fitness equipment, as well as a new cutting-edge paramount functional trainer and touch screen displays on cardio equipment.
  • Field Experience
    Gain hands-on experience, with placement in local health clubs and fitness facilities.

The certificate is offered through the Health, Physical Education and Exercise Studies Department.
